Course ID: 1051
Private Voice lessons are personalized vocal training lessons for students at any level. Students will learn classical technique necessary for proper, healthy, and beautiful singing. Students will sing pieces from various genres and styles according to their individual level and interest including classical, musical theater, sacred, and contemporary music. Students will be assigned 2-3 pieces per semester that are expected to be performance ready by the end of the semester. Students will learn proper singing posture and how to use their breath to support their voice. Through voice lessons students will become familiar with other important aspects of reading music, such as rhythm, expression, and dynamics. Students will learn proper performance etiquette and how to give an engaging performance. Through private voice lessons students will be equipped to give compelling and beautiful performances with a healthy and sustainable vocal technique all while growing their personal repertoire and gaining a greater appreciation and understanding of vocal music.
Students will be expected to practice their music between weekly voice lessons and come to lessons prepared with their sheet music, a pencil, and the previous week’s material practiced.
Private voice lessons are great to pair with the course Fundamentals of Vocal Music to gain a more well-rounded understanding of vocal music, including subjects such as music theory and sight-reading, though these courses are not corequisites.
