Applied Art History
Applied art history is a hands-on studio art course that combines a survey of all the major art movements throughout history with fun mixed media projects that exemplify each period.
Starting with Prehistoric cave paintings and moving through Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, through the Renaissance and Early Modern Era, and into the 20th century and 2000’s, students will discover the styles, artists, and famous artworks that mark these artistic periods. Weekly classes will involve the creation of a unique artwork that correlates with the art period being discussed. Students will keep a sketchbook for this course and have weekly assignments. Projects will involve working with a variety of art mediums throughout the year.
This course is an excellent way for students to synthesize a wide range of historical time periods in a very hands-on and enjoyable manner while gaining skills in various methods of art-making.
