Fundamentals of Math
This course is designed to cement all math concepts taught in elementary and introduce new concepts that will be needed to advance in math classes in middle and high school. This is a year of several new concepts that may need extra practice but once learned, will make math much more digestible in the years to come. Practice of these new concepts is the key to understanding, every student is capable and will be given the support needed to be successful. Time requirements are varied depending on past math mastery. Students will be taught these skills and given multiple practice opportunities in and outside of class. This class will incorporate an online platform for homework that will give immediate feedback and assistance when a student may become stuck on a new concept. All lessons will be taught, practiced and assessed in small chunks in order to be clear about the students mastery and if any additional help will be needed. All tests and quizzes are to be proctored by a parent and signed by both parent and child to confirm the tests have been taken without the use of technology of any kind. All tests will be turned into me to be graded.

1. Chapter 1 - Whole Numbers
— Understand whole numbers, ways of representing them, relationships among them, properties, and number systems
— Understand meanings of operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) of whole numbers and how they relate to one another (compare and order)
— Compute fluently all operations, use the order of operations properly, and make reasonable estimates
2. Chapter 2 - Number Theory
— Understand what is a prime and composite number and be able to use the divisibility rules
— List all factors and multiples of numbers
— Compute the Least Common Multiple and Greatest Common Factor using factors as prime numbers
3, Chapter 3 - Decimals
— Understand decimals, ways of representing them, and relationships among them
— Understand meanings of operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) of decimals and how they relate to one another (compare and order)
4. Chapter 4 - Fractions
— Understand fractions, ways of representing them, relationships among them, and number systems

— Classify the types of real numbers and apply the properties of addition and multiplication
11. Chapter 11 - Expressions
— Identify variables and constants; evaluate algebraic expressions using Order of Operations
— Simplify expressions by collecting like terms and using the distributive property
— Write an algebraic given word phrases and/or sentences
12. Chapter 12 - Equations and Inequalities
— Write algebraic equations, and/or inequalities given word phrases and/or sentences
— Solve one step equations or inequalities using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
— Graphing inequalities on a number line
13. Chapter 13 - The Coordinate Plane
— Define the parts of a coordinate plane
— Determine how to read and graph an ordered pair on a coordinate plane
— Determine scale on the coordinate plane
— Determine and calculate the distance between points on a coordinate plane
