Middle School History: World Studies
Students will explore the major themes and events that shape our world, using BJU World Studies 5th Edition to guide readings, map-reading skills, and thoughtful discussions about cultural developments. The course focuses on justice, power, citizenship, environment, and religion as central ideas that connect people across time and place.
Key Focus Areas:
· History and geography from ancient to modern times
· The rise and fall of governments, economies, and civilizations
· Cultural developments and interactions across continents (Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, and the Pacific)
· The emergence of major world events and movements (revolutions, wars, migrations, and cultural changes)
· Real-world connections to current events such as Brexit, global health, and religious/political conflicts
Skills and Methods:
· Close reading of primary and secondary sources
· Critical thinking and guided questioning to analyze historical evidence
· Map-reading and spatial reasoning
· Discussions that foster respectful dialogue and global awareness
· Structured writing and oral presentations to articulate ideas clearly
