Private Piano
Students will need to own a well-tuned piano. Students are expected to practice regularly. Students will learn music theory and piano repertoire.
Scales, exercises, sight-reading and repertoire in diverse styles of music will be taught. Self-discipline is required in order to make progress. Lessons are held weekly. Music books will need to be purchased individually depending on the student’s level of playing. Beginners are welcome!
Levels: Beginner to Advanced
Duration: 17 weeks per semester

Recital: Public performance at end of each semester

Attendance & Make-Up Policy
Attendance is recorded after each lesson
Cancellation Policy:
Notify instructor at least 24 hours in advance via email
Make-Up Lessons:
1 excused make-up per semester (for illness or emergency only)
Unexcused absences will not be rescheduled
Make-ups depend on teacher availability and are not guaranteed

Materials: Faber Piano Adventures (Basic or Accelerated); Sight Reading, Technique & Theory books
Intermediate
Materials: Simplified classical repertoire (Kabalevsky, Gurlitt, Sonatinas), technique books
Advanced
Materials: Full classical works (Beethoven, Chopin Preludes, Bartók,Schumann); Czerny, Hanon

Skills: Pedaling basics, phrasing, major/minor scales, broken chords
Recital Repertoire: Minimum 2 pieces, focusing on stylistic variety and expression
Advanced
Skills: Scales/arpeggios in all keys, advanced pedaling, tone control
Musicianship: Score interpretation, historical and theoretical context
Recital Repertoire: 2 polished, contrasting works (memorized or near-memorized)
Theory, Ear Training & Composition
Integrated weekly (approx. 5–10 minutes per lesson)
Topics include: Intervals, chords, key signatures, rhythmic dictation
Encouragement of beginner composition and guided creative work
Recital Information
Requirement: Perform 2 memorized (or nearly memorized) pieces
Recital Date: Announced during the third week of December
Preparation: Includes mock performances and guidance on stage presence and confidence
